Knowing what to expect on your trip will help you make better decisions about what luggage and travel accessories to take with you. Once you have determined what kind of luggage and gear you need, figure out how to pack it by organizing the clothes, toiletries and other articles into separate stacks on the bed, arranging them in groups inside the suitcase or bag.

Although many suitcases feature padding or hard casing, the jolts and wear that come with the territory of travel make it important to securely wrap any fragile items. Consider taking small fragile items in your carry-on or hand luggage, or wrap fragile items in towels or clothing to reduce the shock they may receive from the bumping and shifting.

Travel as light as possible: If you have any uncertainty whether you will need certain items, consider the trouble of taking it with you vs. the odds you will need those accessories or articles of clothing.
